In March of 2014, after months of doctor visits and multiple misdiagnosis. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Proctitis (Colitis) and IBSC😳😁😢 The doctor informed me that in order to treat it I would be placed on medication...indefinitely😔. Based on my past experience with medication, I knew that this was not something I was comfortable with. So, I made the choice to get to the root cause rather than just medicate to mask the symptoms. I knew I needed to change my eating habits, but I didn't want to take crazy supplements, purchase processed protein foods, or count points. Been there, done that after each of my 3 pregnancies. I knew a diet would possibly alleviate the symptoms, but I needed to get to the root cause. I needed something more as I no longer wanted to "diet" I wanted to LIVE a healthier lifestyle❤️. I met with an amazing nutritionist that taught me about cellular healing. I learned what to eat and what not to eat. That it wasn't about counting points, but rather eating clean. I learned what worked best for me and what my body could and could not tolerate. This meant major changes in the way I ate. I was a very picky eater...just ask my mom, husband, and mother in law!
For a solid year and a half, I stuck to the nutritionist's orders: clean eating and nothing processed. I felt great and my colitis was in remission. I loved that as a family we were eating clean and I was living and leading by example for our three kids; Alec, Ayden, and Ava.
Then during the 2016 holiday season, I started to introduce more foods back into my diet. The kids and I had fun baking and cooking together. Needless to say, I overindulged🍪🍫. I learned very quickly that just because something is gluten free and organic, doesn’t mean that I should eat an excessive amount of it. I knew I had to get back to clean eating and not overindulge. My friend Letha suggested that I try Shakeology. At first I was a bit skeptical. How would that align to what I learned from the nutritionist? I read up on it and asked her a lot of questions. I did my research and realized that Shakeology was exactly that; a clean, nutrient dense shake. By January I was back to my eating plan with the addition of Shakeology. By March of 2016, I decided to become a coach so that I could share my story and help others achieve their health and fitness goals through clean eating and exercise.
